PEEK can be found in virtually every industrial sector, thanks to its combination of several critical properties (table

). Its development is driven by the need to push back the limits of material use. It is a replacement for machined metals such as stainless steel, aluminum or titanium, for thermoplastics and thermosets, or a response to new designs.
This is the leading market for PEEK, accounting for around 35% of production. The most important properties in this field are temperature resistance, mechanical properties, chemical resistance, resistance to friction and wear, and relative ease of processing.
