1.1 Definition of biopolymers (biosourced, biodegradable)
In the following, biopolymers are defined as polymers that are either biosourced, biodegradable or both.
Biobased polymers are produced from biomass.
There are 3 types of biobased polymers, depending on the type of raw material used:
1 re generation: raw material obtained from food crops (corn, sugar cane, beet, etc.);
2nd generation: raw material obtained from cellulosic waste (e.g. wood processing residues), food waste (e.g. residues from the agri-food industry) or other...
