or because the species propagating polymerization (especially free radicals) are not totally selective and also attack the polymer (especially at high advancement rates);
or because the final glass transition temperature T

is high, polymerization must be carried out at high temperature, i.e. in a range where thermal degradation of the polymer is not negligible.
