When thermoplastic polyester is molded under the wrong conditions (too high a temperature or the presence of moisture), it degrades without changing its appearance significantly. Thermal degradation can result in reduced melt viscosity and lower mechanical properties.
A comparison of viscosity index measurements on granules and parts enables us to assess polymer degradation during processing.
Impact resistance measurements, before and after molding, can also be used to assess processing quality.
