Determination of residual stress by ultrasonic method

residual stresses :

Stresses that remain in a structure or mechanical part in the absence of external stress (mechanical, thermal, etc.).

acoustoelastic :

Relationships describing the interaction between an acoustic wave and a field of deformations (stresses).

subsurface longitudinal wave :

Wave generated by an ultrasonic transducer inclined at the first critical angle (Snell-Descartes laws). The propagation speed of the refracted wave parallel to the interface is that of a longitudinal wave.

ultrasonic transducer :

Transducer for converting electrical energy into mechanical energy and vice versa.

ultrasound :

Mechanical vibrations representative of particle spreading....
