3. Global texture analysis
Quantitative texture analysis involves using experimental results to access the crystal orientation distribution function (CODF) F(g) (orientation density function), which can be considered as the probability of finding grains of orientation g, to the nearest dg in the material under study.

This FDOC is commonly calculated from pole figures (pole density function) measured by X-ray or neutron diffraction, on relatively large samples, so as to have an overall description of the texture, respectively, surface (about 3 cm
2
) and volume (of the order of cm
3
).
In the case of EBSD, it is sufficient to model each orientation by a Gaussian or Lorentzian to calculate the FDOC (
