4. Plastic deformation and work hardening
Tensile tests clearly demonstrate the hardening of metal alloys during plastic deformation. This phenomenon is directly linked to the physical deformation mechanisms at the polycrystal grain scale. After a detailed analysis of hardening resulting from dislocation interaction, the preferred deformation mechanism in ferrite, we present other, more active deformation modes in austenitic grades.
