Lead metal is not classified as a dangerous substance under Directive 67/548/EEC.
On the other hand, fine particles and metal vapors are toxic, as are many lead compounds.
Lead poisoning, or "lead disease", has been known since ancient times, and is at the top of the list of occupational diseases.
6.1 Working atmospheres
The occupational exposure limit values for lead and its inorganic compounds are, for an 8-hour exposure :
European Union: 0.15 mg/m 3 inhalable aerosols ;
France: 0.1 mg/m 3 inhalable aerosols.
