Tensile stresses
In many applications, it is necessary to limit the tensile stress so that it does not exceed the proportionality limit. As a general rule, we suggest not exceeding a stress equal to 0.75 times the proportional limit. This is approximately equal to 0.67 to 0.71 times the yield strength at 0.2% for ferritic cast irons and 0.56 times for other grades. The maximum stress will therefore be 0.75 × 0.67 = 0.50 times the 0.2% yield strength for grades EN-GJS-350-22 and 400-15, and 0.75 × 0.56 = 0.42 times the 0.2% yield strength for other grades.
