The data contained in this article, concerning both the physical and mechanical characteristics of tool steels, complements that of article [M 4 590] relating to standard NF EN 4957. These data are useful for assessing the machining and grinding conditions of different grades, and for calculating the thermomechanical stresses of hot-working tools, among other things. They also help to select the most appropriate grade for the conditions of use, as well as the heat treatment providing optimum properties.
