2.1 Rolls and nips
The type and number of rollers are used to classify the various calenders. In fact, there are two classes of roller for calenders (see paragraph 3 ):
hard rollers (metallic, with Young's moduli of a few hundred GPa);
elastic" or "soft" rollers (natural or synthetic fibers or synthetic coatings...
