5.1 Fluid transport
Fluids contained in the environment surrounding the concrete can penetrate this coating and reach the reinforcement, depassivating it. These gaseous (e.g. carbon dioxide) or liquid (e.g. aqueous solutions) fluids pass through the various pores, which are interconnected within the concrete (connectivity).
The transport mechanisms of these fluids are of four classes (figure 16 ):
