3. Dissolution phenomenology of metallic materials
In this section, we present various cases of dissolution of a metallic material in a liquid metal or alloy. The focus is on steel/(Pb, Pb-Bi, Pb-Li) and steel/Na pairs, for which numerous studies have been carried out in the context of applications to nuclear systems. In this chapter, only the phenomenon of pure dissolution in an isothermal system will be examined: the processes of dissolution in the hot zone and subsequent deposition of dissolved species in the cold zone will not be considered.
Two families of steels will be studied: austenitic steels and martensitic steels, widely used in the nuclear industry
