The results obtained during hot-dip galvanizing depend in part on the steels used, and in particular on their chemical composition. When steel is immersed in liquid zinc, a metallurgical reaction (diffusion) occurs between the zinc and the steel.

Coating formation rate and structure depend on the silicon and phosphorus content of the steel.

The standard NF A 35-503 defines three categories of steel suitable for galvanizing (table 4). When ordering, please specify the standard reference NF A 35-503 and, if necessary, the steel category.
