3. Disadvantages and limitations of composite materials

There are very few of them. One of the few disadvantages is the difficulty of repairing them, although there are possibilities for laminating or bonding.

Another disadvantage is that, due to their recent development, composites techniques are only well known to specialists, although training courses and technical publications do exist.

Finally, the heat resistance of composites is much lower than that of metals, usually limited to around 100°C (except in the case of very special resins such as PEEK or polyimides, which withstand temperatures of around 250°C).
