Aluminium recovery and recycling. Melting and shaping

In units where new scrap is simply remelted, the metal is either returned in the liquid state in ladles, or cast in large blocks weighing between 450 and 1,000 kg [this practice is widespread in the USA, and these large blocks are known by the acronym RSI (Remelted Scraps Ingot )].

In the integrated recycling plants and in some others, the metal is shaped according to the requirements of further processing, and the classic equipment of aluminum processing plants is present:

• billets (standard diameter 250 mm, length 6 m) for the manufacture of sections and bars by extrusion;
