HLE steels; HSS
High yield strength steels, with yield strengths above 360 MPa.
High cycle fatigue (HCF)
Occurs when materials are subjected to stresses well below their elastic limit over a large number of cycles, typically after 105 cycles.
Oligocyclic fatigue; low cycle fatigue (LCF)
Occurs when materials are subjected to high stress variations, generally exceeding the elastic limit, over a small number of cycles up to approximately 104 cycles.
Throat (apotheme); throat length
Dimension of the weld bead at 45°.
Liquation; liquidation
Separation of a metal from its alloys by heating to a temperature at which one of the constituents melts and separates from the others, which remain solid.
Leg length
Width of the weld bead at the sheet metal.
