1. Feeding ingot moulds and foundry cavities

When discussing this subject, we should mention the preparation and handling of molten metal before and during casting, as these operations are often the responsibility of the person carrying out the solidification shaping, whether for semi-finished products or castings.

1.1 General information on liquid supply

The liquid metal entering the caster is characterized by a chemical analysis and a level of residual impurities. This metal also contains non-metallic inclusions in suspension; in the case of steels, these are usually oxides. In general, liquid metal transfer operations must be carried out without modifying the composition of the metal and without increasing the number of suspended inclusions, or even decreasing it.
