1. Polyurethanes: origin, structure and uses

1.1 Polyurethane synthesis

PUs (figure 1 ) are obtained by reaction between a polyfunctional alcohol and isocyanate, forming a carbamate group, also known as urethane. This reaction can produce linear or cross-linked materials, depending on the functionality of the monomers (figure 2 )
