4. Elastomer properties
Elastomers are distinguished from metallic and plastic materials by their elasticity, i.e. the ability to undergo large deformations and then return to dimensions close to the original ones.
As a result, the molecular network must be sufficiently flexible and deformable, leading to low levels of mechanical properties, greater sensitivity to temperature variations and different types of aging.
Like all engineering materials, silicone elastomers are subject to other contingencies concerning, for example, chemical resistance, electrical properties, gas permeability, fire resistance, ...
