3. Main wastes generated in the foundry
The main wastes generated in foundries can be divided into two categories:
non-process-related waste, i.e. waste not specific to the foundry and resulting from ancillary operations;
process-related waste generated during the manufacturing process of a cast metal part.
Non-process waste consists mainly of :
wooden or plastic pallets,
non-hazardous waste: big-bags, paper bags, cardboard, plastic packaging,
metal and plastic drums and packaging,
protective equipment,
scrap metal from maintenance operations,
soiled rags,
waste oils (motor oils, mineral oils),
cleaning solvents.
