Historically, the first induction furnace for industrial use was not the crucible furnace, but the channel furnace. . This is the closest to the design of a current transformer. In fact, the inductor part of a channel furnace consists of: a primary coil, a magnetic circuit or core, and a single-turn secondary circuit, called a channel in this case.

The crucible induction furnace, on the other hand, has no channel and no magnetic core. It is mainly used for melting metals or metal alloys.
