1. Typology and properties of metal matrices
Depending on how metal matrix composites (MMCs) are developed (Figure 5), before the MMCs are made, the metal matrix can be found in various forms:
in massive form (ingot, sponge, granulate, etc.) for the various liquid processes and for most vapour-phase processes (except for chemical deposits);
in powder form for all solid-phase processes.
