Nitriding and nitrocarburizing: materials used and application qualities

The fact that nitriding is carried out at low temperatures means that the effects of burning off surface contaminants and "recrystallization by annealing" of the material (which occur with high-temperature treatments) are not, or only to a limited extent, involved.
