3. Specific conditioning of fission products (I, Cs)
Iodine is a fission product with several peculiarities to be carefully considered when developing a specific package. Firstly, this element comprises several radioactive isotopes, including 129I, 131I and a stable isotope 127I. The 131I isotope is produced in small quantities in reactors and has a short half-life (T1/2 = 8 days), while the 129I isotope has a very long half-life (T1/2 = 1.6 × 107 years) and low specific activity.
