2.1 General installation diagram

Every atomic absorption instrument contains the same basic elements (figure 3), namely :

  • a light source (primary source) which produces radiation characteristic of the element to be dosed at wavelength λ0 ;

  • a system for modulating the radiation from the source;

  • an atomizer whose role is to produce a cloud of atoms in the ground state;

  • a monochromator used to eliminate all radiation other than that at wavelength λ0...
