Instrumental developments are generally driven by scientific needs and technical advancements. Here, we focus primarily on the former. Depending on scientific requirements, instruments have been developed, either in laboratories or commercially. Here are a few examples.
The simultaneous study of a broad, quasi-elastic line and a Brillouin scattering signal requires a large ISL while maintaining high resolution. Furthermore, since the intensity ratio of the elastic signal to the Brillouin signal is very high, high contrast is essential. A simple interferometer cannot meet these simultaneous requirements.
