4. Sample preparation
Samples brought into the laboratory are rarely ready for immediate GC-MS analysis, and sample preparation is a very important step in the analytical protocol.
4.1 Pre-treatment
As with GC, samples for GC-MS must be introduced into the injector in a solvent compatible with the column and injection modes (e.g., with or without flow splitting, with cold column injection, large volume injection, etc.), be free from solid particles that could block the injection needle, and be free from non-vaporizable compounds that could degrade or pollute the chromatographic column (see Gas chromatography
