5. Other modulated techniques
Still with the idea of superimposing a linear temperature ramp and a non-linear variation as a function of time, a number of manufacturers can offer modulation options other than sinusoidal modulation.
5.1 Step-Scan® process
In this process, developed by PerkinElmer for power-compensated DSCs, the sample is subjected to a succession of short heating intervals followed by isothermal steps (figure 25). The low inertia and rapid response of the two furnaces enable this temperature program. The method offers several advantages:
a purely linear temperature ramp ;
isothermal bearings ;
no distortion of the sinusoidal signal...
