There are several physical processes involved in obtaining color, in particular from a solid or layered transparent matrix (called enamel), translucent (bodies, opacified glazes) or even opaque. The term enamel is generic, referring to both a glaze (enamel on porcelain fired with the body of the object) and a glaze (enamel applied to a porous, already-fired shard). These processes are used both by nature and by man in synthetic materials
