4. Conclusions and outlook
The disadvantages of first-generation superficially porous stationary phases for the analysis of small molecules, in terms of loading capacity and retention, have been overcome with the appearance since 2006 of
phases with sufficiently thick porous layers. As a result, the use of these supports is no longer limited to the analysis of large biomolecules, but is applicable to all types of molecules, as well as to all modes of liquid and supercritical phase separation.
