1. Principles

1.1 Absorption of radiation in the UV-VIS range

The principle of ultraviolet and visible absorption spectrometry is based on the absorption of radiation by molecules in the range from 190 to 800 nm, which corresponds to the ultraviolet (190-400 nm) and visible (400-800 nm) ranges. Some spectrophotometers also cover the near infrared up to 2,500 nm, for example. This range is illustrated in Figure 1 .
