4. Conformity Assessment Under Uncertainty
Since every measurement result has an associated uncertainty, any conformity decision made based on a measurement result carries a risk of decision error, that is:
declaring a product or measuring instrument to be compliant when it is, in fact, non-compliant. This risk will be referred to as the “Customer Risk” (
) in the remainder of this document;
declaring a product or measuring instrument nonconforming when it is, in fact, conforming. This risk will be referred to as the “Supplier Risk” (
) in the remainder of this document.
