The Vocabulary of Metrology is now in its third edition.

First edition
The first edition, published by Afnor under the reference NF X 07-001 of December 1984 "International Vocabulary of Basic and General Terms in Metrology", was prepared by the ISO Metrology Group, which had proposed to the four main organizations involved in metrology (BIPM, IEC, ISO and OIML) a concerted effort to establish a vocabulary of general terms used in metrology. At the time, the working group drew heavily on existing IEC and OIML vocabularies.
In the field of errors and uncertainties, this Vocabulary has had to limit its ambitions, as the concepts themselves are still the subject of study and controversy.
