The essential difference between these portable devices and fixed equipment is the likelihood of an electrical fault occurring while they are being used, either hand-held or in contact with the hand. Since, in general, they are also fitted with flexible tubing which can be subjected to a wide range of stresses (traction, impact, crushing, abrasion, torsion, etc.), it is not surprising that the proportion of accidents occurring during their use is higher than for fixed equipment.
