3. Subcontracting of metrology services
Laboratories that do not have in-house calibration facilities for their equipment must call on accredited laboratories for this service.
It may be useful to compare the cost of acquiring the equipment with the cost of subcontracting the service.
In addition to the direct cost of acquiring a standard, there are also the costs of staff training, equipment calibration time, etc. So, on a case-by-case basis, it may be more or less cost-effective to use an accredited laboratory for a metrology service.
