A standard is a consensus that guarantees the quality of a company's work and a common language. "A real strategic weapon, a tool for market penetration: that's how our colleagues on the other side of the Rhine have always viewed standardization. A brake on innovation, trivialization, constraint... are the most widespread clichés in France" [2][3] . French manufacturers, through the Union de normalisation de la mécanique (UNM), take part in standardization work on new subjects as well as on standards revisions, with a view to being industrial players in harmony with this standardization rather than in disagreement. Standardized tolerancing is a declarative language for dimensional and geometric specifications.
