1. Focal plane infrared detectors
Infrared radiation covers a wide range of wavelengths, from the upper limit of the visible range (0.8 µm) to the millimeter-wave range.
The presentation will be limited to infrared detectors sensitive in wavelength ranges belonging to the [0.8 to 12 µm] domain, which can be broken down into three main domains corresponding to the atmosphere's three transmission windows: SWIR (0.8 to 2.5 µm), MWIR (3 to 5 µm) and LWIR (8 to 12 µm).
Beyond 12 µm, we can mention VLWIR (12 to 15 µm and even beyond), which may be of interest for space applications.
