Laser applications are many and varied. Each application takes advantage of one or more properties of laser light that are inaccessible to conventional sources:
beam directivity, excellent focus ;
monochromatic light ;
short, intense impulses ;
tunability.
4.1 Scientific applications
The most revolutionary applications of lasers are certainly to be found in the scientific field.
