Interferometry enables non-contact distance measurement, but in some cases, to improve performance, reflector devices are attached to the part to be measured. Interferometry can be used for one- or three-dimensional measurements, depending on the method used. Two-dimensional measurements have seen very little industrial development: analysis is carried out on a line using systems capable of measuring a surface using a three-dimensional method. A two-dimensional system can be built by combining a one-dimensional sensor and a single precision translational mechanical movement.
