Plenoptic cameras benefit from the latest technological advances in terms of detection (matrix with more and more pixels and smaller and smaller pixels) and processing (computing power and speed, even for embedded software such as smartphones). Recently, increasingly high-performance products such as the Lytro llum and Raytrix R42 have been launched, with the processing offered by these cameras designed primarily for consumer applications. The use of this type of camera for scientific applications requiring high precision, such as 3D flow visualization (PIV) or fluorescence microscopy, is not yet mature.
