2. Measurement principles
In polarimetric imaging, experimental measurements are used to determine the components of the Stokes vector or Mueller matrix. From this data, it is possible to deduce the physical quantities associated with the scene or object under study. In the case of Stokes imaging, it will be possible to record any information that modifies the polarization state of the wave. When interacting with an object, the polarization state of the light wave can be modified as a function of the object's geometric characteristics (surface orientation, for example).
