Ultrasonic residual stress analysis is a quantitative, fast and non-destructive technique, based on the dependence of the propagation velocity of ultrasonic waves on the state of stress in the material. The non-destructive nature and low cost of equipment are the main advantages favoring the development of this technique.
As we know, any manufacturing process induces residual stresses in a mechanical part, which influence its fatigue, fracture and even corrosion behavior. The role of these residual stresses is therefore fundamental to the design of a mechanical part. In recent years, there has been an increasing number of studies aimed at understanding their effects on mechanical performance.
