4. Magnetic particle inspection
Non-destructive testing by magnetic particle inspection aims to detect surface or underlying defects (figure 3).
The part is subjected to the action of the magnetic field. There are three important magnetic field parameters to consider:
its nature. The waveform used conditions the penetration of the induction lines into the cross-section of the part. The closer we are to the wave corresponding to the DC field, the deeper we penetrate into the cross-section, and the better we can detect underlying defects. Depending on the system used, various waveforms can be encountered: single-phase sinusoidal, single-phase full-wave or half-wave...
