3. Conclusions
Gas detection has been the subject of sustained research and development for many years. In this vast field, fiber optic sensors represent a rapidly expanding niche for which the first research dates back three decades. Their many advantages make them a prime candidate for securing vast areas such as industrial sites and gas pipelines. Indeed, the dimensions of optical fibers and their low attenuation make them ideal for (quasi) distributed sensors.
Ongoing research into this type of sensor will undoubtedly increase their selectivity and robustness in the future. In this way, like fiber-optic physical sensors, they will conquer more and more markets. The field of fiber optic gas sensors is therefore booming.
