Bolted flange assemblies
Mechanical connections consisting of flanges, a gasket, and fasteners, ensuring the structural integrity of the system and pressure-tight sealing.
Metal-to-metal contact
A configuration in which rigid flange surfaces come into contact, limiting compression of the gasket and stabilizing the mechanical behavior of the assembly.
Effective gasket diameter
The diameter at which the gasket’s contact load is in equilibrium.
Back pressure
The axial resultant of the internal pressure on the fluid section in question; it tends to push the flanges apart and must be balanced by the clamping force in the bolting.
