3. Assembly stability
The assemblies discussed in this booklet are particularly susceptible to the problem of spontaneous unscrewing. Indeed, the forces applied in the plane of the assembly tend to cause the parts to slide relative to each other, and under alternating or repeated stresses, if the amplitude of the displacement is sufficient and in the absence of an effective braking system, spontaneous loosening is inevitable, leading to premature ruin of the assembly.
