These normal proportions do not always ensure the conditions necessary for proper operation, and certainly do not ensure the best conditions.
We'll see that very significant improvements can be made by modifying the gear proportions. These purely geometric modifications are called "correction" or "offset". They are all the more interesting in that they can be made with the standard range of tools, without any increase in manufacturing cost.
