Timing belt drives are naturally subject to standardization. . Not all characterizations are codified, however, and depend very much on the type of subsequent use.
The length of the belt, and consequently the pitch pb, can be obtained in various ways, the simplest being to unwind the belt without any longitudinal tension and measure the length directly over a sufficient number of pitches, using suitable means to ensure accuracy. The standardized method (NF ISO 9010) recommends measuring the centre-to-centre distance obtained with a belt mounted on two master pulleys applying low tension, and deducing the length on the assumption that the free strands are straight-line segments (figure 17,...
