Tooth fractures are the most critical damage to timing belt drives. Numerous models have therefore been proposed to determine the loads actually applied to the teeth. The reference model, proposed by Gerbert

in the late 1970s, takes into account the discrete aspect of force transmission. Koyama's
[8][50][51][52][53][54]
model, proposed around the same time, introduces the real geometry of the transmission, including the pitch difference (
§ 2.3).
